A potentially groundbreaking discovery was made on the International Space Station (ISS) when previously absent bacteria appeared on the hull of the module.
Russian cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov affirmed that "Bacteria that had not been there during the launch of the ISS module were found on the swabs".
This hints at the intriguing possibility that the bacteria may be of non terrestrial origin with Shkaplerov apparently telling a Russian news outlet that "They came from somewhere in outer space and settled on the outside of the station".
The next step will be to analyse the micro-organisms further on earth, in order to ascertain if these stunning assertions hold any credibility.
