Killing of Kate Steinle Verdict : December 2017

José Inés Garcia Zárate, an illegal immigrant who was charged with the killing of Kate Steinle, has been absolved of the murder. Although he still faces possible gun charges relating to the incident which occurred in in July 2015.

This particular case has taken on myriad angles, after becoming a key campaigning point for President Trump during his 2016 presidential run.

Zárate had previously been deported from the United States five times and was currently being sought in order to be deported once again when the incident took place, which he alleged happened after taking sleeping pills that he found in a dumpster, then accidentally firing a gun he also found. Zárate has seven prior felony convictions.

Following the acquittal of Zárate, an enraged  President Trump took to Twitter to make his feelings known. "A disgraceful verdict in the Kate Steinle case! No wonder the people of our Country are so angry with Illegal Immigration"
