New Elections in Germany Government November 2017

Angela Merkel, current leader of Germany has expressed her preference for a second election in the country over the forming of a possible minority government.

This statement came on the back of the heels of the news that coalition talks between Merkel`s center-right CDU party and the Freedom Democratic Party (FDP) had broken down.

“We are facing a situation which [we] did not face in the Federal Republic of Germany for almost 70 years", stated German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Germany is the biggest economy in Europe and fourth biggest in the world and if it is unable to form a stable government then possible economic tumult awaits in the near future.

Angela Merkel has suffered a humiliating defeat in her home state at the hands of AfD, a relatively new anti immigration party that has been stiffly growing in popularity.

Following the victory, the leader of the AfD Frauke Petry struck a triumphant tone, saying "This is a slap in the face for Merkel - not only in Berlin but also in her home state. The voters made a clear statement against Merkel's disastrous immigration policies. This put her in her place.".

Merkel and her party have begun to suffer a backlash on her immigration policies, especially following the events in Cologne on New Years Eve when hundreds of women were subjected to sexual assault, largely at the hands of migrants, in addition to recent terrorist incidents.

Alternative for Deutschland Party (AfD) secured 21% of the vote, compared to 19.2% for Merkel`s CDU party in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Election Polls South Carolina 2016 Trump

A new poll taken online continues to indicate that Donald Trump holds a hefty lead over this adversaries in the race to become the republican nominee for the presidency in 2016.

The "Battleground Tracker" poll undertaken by CBS News shows Trump with 42% of the vote ahead of nearest challenger Cruz on 20%, Marco Rubio obtains 15% of the preferences.

It would be too soon to draw any conclusions as to what effect, if any, the republican debate of Saturday night had on the results. One thing is sure, Trump is the man to beat in the first southern state to go to vote in the primaries, and Cruz has consolidated his position as the main challenger to the business mogul.

It must be said that South Carolina registered voters were surveyed and that the poll has a margin of error of 5.7%.

The process to replace Barack Obama in the White House is underway and it starts in 7 days time with the insurgent candidates confident of upsetting the status quo and the establishment on the defensive. Next week the Iowa caucuses take place.

A mere 8 days later it will be the turn of New Hampshire to cast their votes, as far as the democrats are concerned it is a two horse race between Cliton and Sanders, with the later gaining significant ground, according to polling in the last few weeks.

On the republican side businessman Donald Trump continues to dominate the race, despite Ted Cruz gaining ground over the last month or so.

Clinton vs Sanders Poll 2016 Elections

New polls coming out of the key states of Iowa and New Hampshire show Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders neck and neck. A Fox News poll even showed a lead of 50%-37% for Sanders in New Hampshire, whereas in November Sanders trailed 44%-45%.

Most polls however show the race as too close to call, The Wall Street Journal and NBC show Clinton leading 48%-45% in Iowa and 50%-46% in New Hampshire.
