It is hard to believe that there are still more than 2 months are left until the presidential election takes place. It seems like forever ago that the primary campaign begun with a multitude of candidates, especially on the Republican side.

Now, however, we are down to the last two candidates, representatives of the major parties. Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton will go head to head to see who becomes the most powerful person on earth, will it be the real estate developer who is new to politics, or will the former first lady and secretary of state become the first female president in the country`s history.

If we look at recent polling, Hillary Clinton holds a significant advantage over her republican opponent.

RealClearPolitics Average (18-30 August)

Hillary Clinton   46.7%
Donald Trump   41.4%

Video Donald Trump in Mexico August 2016

Donald Trump will visit Mexico at the invitation of the President Enrique Peña Nieto.

The trip has provoked a wide array of reactions, with many criticizing Peña Nieto for receiving the businessman turned politician, given his comments about Mexico and illegal immigration from the country.

According to the official twitter account of the Mexican Presidency, the President invited both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton to Mexico to meet with them and discuss relations between the two countries.

Donald Trump stoked controversy last year when announcing his run for president, claiming that "When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people. "

These statements have made him unpopular in Mexico and other parts of Latinamerica. Despite this Trump has repeatedly claimed that he will win the Latino vote in the upcoming election.

Donald Trump meeting the Mexican President (Video)

Republican candidate Donald Trump is meeting with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto today.

Peña Nieto took to Twitter to declare "I believe in dialogue to promote the interests of Mexico in the world and firstly to protect Mexicans, wherever they are"

Trump has had a somewhat controversial relationship with Mexico since lauching his campaign bid, repeatedly attacking the country for the epidemic of illegal immigration on the southern border and for taking jobs from the United States.

The official Twitter of the Mexican Presidency confirmed that Peña Nieto had invited both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton in order to discuss bilateral relations between Mexico and the US.

Police Woman Stabbed in Toulouse, France 30/8/2016

A stabbing has taken place against a police officer in the French city of Toulouse at a police station. .

The suspect who has since been arrested , is a 31 year old man of Algerian origin who the authorities say first attempted to steal the officers weapon but upon being unsuccessful proceeded to stab her in the neck multiple times.

It is believed that the man entered the building in order to make a complaint before launching the attack. Authorities say that the man`s motives remain unclear at the current time.

France has been under a state of emergency since the November 13 attacks in Paris which led to 130 people being killed in a series of coordinated shootings and suicide bombings in different parts of the city. This year an attack in Nice by a jihadi terrorist killed 84 people, leaving many wounded which led to the government extending the state of emergency giving them extraordinary powers to combat the threat that France currently faces.

Joseph Gargiulo Arrested for planning attacks on Mosques, Obama

A man has been arrested in Holliston, situated about 30 miles west of Boston for allegedly planning attacks on police stations, mosques and President Obama.

Joseph Gargiulo, 40, had apparently stockpiled a significant arsenal of weapons, ammunition and chemicals for hand-made explosives.

The FBI said in a press release on Monday that “In recent days, the FBI learned that Garguilo had stated that he wanted to attack a mosque and/or kill President Obama,”

The FBI had learned of the stockpile of weapons from a female acquaintance of Garguilo`s who reportedly told police that "he will plant bombs in police stations and kill as many homeland security officers as he can before they kill him,".

The suspect is charged with being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition as he was currently under an active restraining order under which he was banned from possessing firearms or ammunition due to “substantial likelihood of immediate danger of abuse.”

Is Trump Really Going to Build a Wall?

When Republican candidate Donald Trump brashly stated that he would build a wall on the southern border in order to stem immigration from Mexico and Central America, most pundits believed it to be merely a publicity stunt in order to garner attention. However as time as progressed, Trump has become the official Republican nominee and has showed no sign whatsoever of backing down from the idea.

In fact he took to Twitter on Tuesday to issue the following statement

Many experts had questioned whether building a wall encompassing the entire southern border would be feasible, due to very rugged terrain. Trump however later clarified that the wall would not extend the full length of the border due to "natural barriers" and therefore it would only have to be about 1000km in length. According to Trump the wall would cost 10-12 billion dollars and Mexico is going to pay for its construction.

When asked "what the wall will be made out of?" by a child at a Virginia rally, Trump replied "I`ll tell you what it`s going to be made of, it`s going to be made of hardened concrete and it`s going to be made out of rebar and steel".

Migrant Arrivals Greece, Italy August 2016

On Monday a total of 6,500 migrants were rescued off the coast of Italy after setting sail from Africa. Migrants arriving on the European nation`s shores often come in waves, with many arriving when the weather is good and seas are calm.

This now brings the total number of arrivals to the country by boat to more than 110,000 during 2016, and over 400,000 have made the journey in the last 3 years.

Italy has been struggling to cope with the large amount of refugees and economic migrants and currently is housing at least 115,000 in temporary shelters and centers.

According to the IOM (International Organization for Migration) the main countries of origin for arrivals to Italy in July 2016 were Nigeria, Eritrea, Gambia, Ivory Coast and Sudan.

Greece is also starting to see an increase in migrant arrivals with 462 arriving between Monday and Tuesday morning, a marked increase on previous weeks, although far below 2015 levels.

The EU brokered a deal with Turkey to stem the flow of arrivals to Greece in exchange for aid and visa free travel for Turkish citizens. However the EU has yet to provide all of the aid and the visa free travel, citing concerns about human rights abuses in the country, this had lead Turkey to threaten to withdraw from the agreement if visa free travel is not granted by October.

Polls Trump vs Clinton August 30 2016

Within the last week Republican nominee for President, Donald Trump has embarked on a strategy of attracting more ethnic minority support, mainly black voters, but is it a case of too little, too late?

Many commentators have long been waiting for Trump to pivot more to the center, in order to attract a greater share of independents and possibly disaffected Sander`s supporters. However no such pivot has really occurred until now.

Black people tend to vote overwhelmingly democrat and despite more attempts by the Republican party to reach out to this demographic over the last few years, hitherto nothing has been successful.

Trump`s main message to African Americans appears to be that he will lower crime within their communities and bring back jobs from other countries.

The current running average on RealClearPolitics shows that Hillary Clinton continues to hold a healthy lead over Donald Trump based on the last 6 reliable polls.

Hillary Clinton  48.3%
Donald Trump  42.3%

Colin Kaepernick Refuses to Stand for the National Anthem

Colin Kaepernick, a quarterback with the San Francisco 49ers, caused great controversy after refusing to stand for the national anthem, a move which he later stated was related to the ongoing racial unrest plaguing the United States.

"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color," he told nfl.com.

"To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way.

"There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.’'

A spokesman for the team later confirmed that Kaepernick had not broken any rules for not standing “We recognize the right of an individual to choose and participate, or not, in our celebration of the national anthem,".

Following this, many took to social media to express their support or disgust for Kaepernicks`s actions, with many tweeting pictures with his quotes in solidarity with the football star, while others uploading pictures of people burning his jersey.

Immigration Germany Statistics 2016

The population of Germany in 2015 grew by a total of 978,000 due to an influx of 1.1 million migrants, reaching 82.2 million people. The European economic powerhouse has been suffering from declining fertility rates and an aging population over the last few decades. During 2015 188,000 more people died than were born in the country, so the increase is down entirely due to migratory factors.

In 1960 Germany had a fertility rate of 2.29 children per woman (a culture needs a minimum fertility rate of 2.11 to sustain the population). However in 2015 this rate had dropped to a mere 1.3. The German population was predicted to decline to 74.5 million in 2050, possibly being eclipsed by the UK as the most populous country in Europe.

The solution undertaken appears to be to import mass numbers of young migrants in order to stem this demographic decline, however this has caused vast friction within the country with many fearful of violence from the newcomers (such as in Cologne on new years eve) and also possible infiltration of ISIS fighters into the country.

Proxima B New Earth Like Planet Found August 2016 (Photos)

The discovery of a new "earth like planet" has been sending ripples through the scientific community. At approximately 1.3 times the size of the earth and apparently having a rocky surface, should the planet have an atmosphere then it could certainly possess liquid water, raising the possibility of some form of life. If the planet has no atmosphere then the temperature would be about -40C

What makes the discovery all the more remarkable is that the planet orbits the nearest star to the sun, Proxima Centauri, right on our doorstep.

“There is a reasonable expectation that this planet might be able to host life, yes,” according to  Guillem Anglada-Escudé, co-author of the research from Queen Mary, University of London.

Despite this, it is unlikely that we would be able to visit, at 4.2 light years from earth, it would take about 70,000-100,000 years to reach Proxima B, as the newly discovered planet has been named.

Proxima B orbits within the "habitable zone", a distance from its star where life is most likely to exist and this being the case, it would be safe to assume that many planets within the galaxy also have similar orbits, raising the possibility that life may be more common than we can even imagine.

Latest Polls Trump vs Clinton August 27 2016

Polling data collected over the last few weeks continues to show Hillary Clinton with a substantial lead over Republican candidate and real estate mogul Donald Trump.

The only reliable poll during the month of august that will bring any cheer to the Trump camp is one conducted by LA Times/USC which shows him tied with Clinton, all others show Clinton with a lead of between 3-10 points.

RealClearPolitics (average based on all reliable polls conducted between 1-24 August)

Hillary Clinton  47.7%
Donald Trump  41.7%

Clinton leading by 6 points.

It must be noted that many questions have been raised by certain sections of Trump supporters as to the reliability of the polling methods employed as of late, claiming them to be heavily weighted in favor of democrat voters.

Trump no doubt received a significant bounce following the RNC in July which actually showed him leading nationally in many polls, however since the DNC took place he seems to have fallen away and been unable to close the gap once more.

GDP Growth United States August 2016

The U.S economy expanded by 1.1% in the second quarter of 2016 (April - June), slightly less than the predicted 1.2% by economists.

One of the main reasons for this slow growth is due to businesses reducing their inventories and spending less on new infrastructure and equipment, however growth is expected to pick up in the summer and fall due to greater consumer spending.

The US economy has not been able to achieve over 3% economic growth on an annual basis since 2005, and since the financial crisis of 2008-2009, the economy has been decidedly sluggish.

Annual growth for 2015 was 2.6% compared to just 1% for the first six months of 2016, this slowdown can be attributed in part to economic instability in China and the strong dollar stunting the export market.

Does HIllary Clinton have Parkinson's Disease

Famed conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has taken to the air to declare that he has leaked information from the Secret Service that Hillary Clinton is suffering from Parkisons or "a similar disease"

Questions over Clinton`s health have been increasing in recent weeks as videos and photos have emerged appearing to show the candidate in ill health, with some suggesting she is suffering from seizures following a fall she suffered in 2012. Many conservative commentators have been demanding that her full medical records be released.

Martin Shkreli, know by many as "The most hated man in America" for increasing the price of Daraprim, a drug used to treat HIV by 5,000% also stepped into the fray, declaring on twitter "I'm dead serious. I reviewed a number of videos and I think @HillaryClinton has early onset Parkinson's Disease. It appears she takes L-dop".

Whatever the veracity of these claims, one thing is certain, questions about Clinton`s health are not going away any time soon.

Why was Milo Yiannoupoulos Banned from Twitter

Milo Yiannopoulos was finally banned on Twitter following a spat with Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones.

After a heated exchange on the platform, some of Yiannopoulos`s followers who generally hail from the alt right and engage in trolling campaigns, began to send Jones abusive messages, some of a racial nature.

According to Buzzfeed, a Twitter spokesman stated that “People should be able to express diverse opinions and beliefs on Twitter,” before stating “But no one deserves to be subjected to targeted abuse online, and our rules prohibit inciting or engaging in the targeted abuse or harassment of others.”

Yiannopoulos, who has seen his popularity skyrocketed in recent months and is not one to shy away from controversy, promptly taking to CNBC to declare "I`m not responsible for what other people post on the internet" adding "It`s preposterous to suggest that a public figure, an entertainment personality or a prominent journalist is responsible for what other people post on the internet"

Polls Clinton vs Trump California August 2016

As would be expected, Hillary Clinton has a massive advantage over Trump in the polling for the presidential election in the state of California.

According to the latest RealClearPolitics average (which takes into account the last 5 reliable polls in the state conducted between May 19- July 19) Clinton has a lead of 22.2%.

During the primary campaign Trump was keen to stress that he could bring certain democrat states into play, which no other candidate could, such as New York. Despite that, California would probably be too ambitious even for the real estate mogul to contemplate.

The latest nationwide polls show Trump trailing Clinton by about 6 points, although many Trump supporters have questioned the veracity of the polling methods.

Trump vs Clinton Polls August 25 2016

After a tough few weeks for the Donald Trump campaign which has shown him down by 6 points on his rival Hillary Clinton, the republican candidate appears to have switched tactics, trying to attract more black voters to support him.

The latest RealClearPolitics average shows the following data

RealClearPolitics Average (August 1-22)

Hillary Clinton  47.0%
Donald Trump  41.5%

Many republicans have been highlighting the fact that in many democrat run cities with high african american communities murder rates and gun crime have been on the rise since last year, especially in Chicago and Baltimore and Trump is trying to appeal to disgruntled black voters in these areas, portraying himself as the "law and order" candidate.

Although black voters tend to vote democrat in overwhelming numbers, Trump appears to be betting that he can convince enough of them to vote Republican in order to boost his vote share in key swing states to triumph in this year`s election.

Hillary Clinton`s Health Condition August 2016

Ben Carson, former republican candidate and famed Neurosurgeon has weighed in on the recent rumours regarding the health of democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, telling Fox News that it was "critical" that she release her full health records. "These things should be open to the public" adding that the presidency was "not a nine to five job – it is extraordinarily grueling and you need to have everything going for you".

In 2012 Clinton fell and hit her head causing a blod clot which required medical intervention. There is speculation that she may still be suffering the effects of that incident, as in many patients, there are a number of problems that can arise from such an event.

Many people have pointed to videos and photos of Clinton where she appears to lose control momentarily or to be exhausted.

A new poll conducted by FOX News shows that following the DNC would appear to indicate that Hillary Clinton has experienced a large bounce showing her up 10 points.

We feel like in another week or so, the polls are going to even out,", "We always thought we had a bounce and knew the Democrats would have a bounce. And now you see a situation in what looks like an uneven field but in two weeks we think that’s gonna even out if we are out there on our message, which we will be" he continued.

Trump calls Hillary Clinton "The Devil" (Video)

Donald Trump shows no sign of letting up in his attacks on HIllary Clinton, just yesterday referring to the democratic candidate as "The Devil". During a speech in Pennsylvania, given in typical fashion, Trump immediately went on the attack against Clinton, or as he likes to call her "crooked Hillary".

Trump then went on to say that he thought the election could be "rigged" against him and referring to the endorsement of Clinton by Bernie Sanders said "He made a deal with the devil, she`s the devil".

Monday, August 1, 2016

Trump vs Clinton Polls August 2 2016

As we can see the latest average of polls conducted by RealClearPolitics shows Hillary Clinton has retaken the lead over Republican candidate Donald Trump.

RCP Average (July 22-31)

Hillary Clinton  44.9%
Donald Trump  42.7%

So Clinton now has a lead of 2.2% largely due to two new polls conducted by CBS News and PPP which produced the following results.

CBS News Poll July 29-31, Margin of Error 3.0%, 1131 RV

Hillary Clinton  47%
Donald Trump  41%

PPP Poll, July 29-30, Margin of Error 2.7%, 1276 LV

Hillary Clinton  50%
Donald Trump  45%

Despite the fact that Trump has fallen behind once again he is still much closer to the democrat contender than he had been for much of July when Clinton`s lead fluctuated between 3-5% before Trump was the apparent beneficiary of a "convention bounce" at the end of the month when he moved into a 1% lead.

Most commentators and members of the public have been forced to admit, love him or loathe him, Donald Trump`s political resilience has been breathtaking. After overcoming a plethora of scandals during the Republican Primaries and facing a "Never Trump" movement from within the party, he has continued to dumbfound political gravity by running Clinton close in many polls. Polling from within the last month even showed him with slight leads in Pennsylvania and Florida and level in Ohio.

Although polling is our only real indicator of who is winning in the race for the White House, they have proven to be extremely volatile thus far. For example Clinton was shown to be leading in by 8 points in Florida and within just a few weeks Trump was shown to be in the lead by 1 point in the vital state.

Polls Trump vs Clinton Florida August 2016

No reliable polling has been conducted in the vital state of Florida since June 11. However according to the RealClearPolitics average which comprises of 4 polls conducted between June 27 and July 11, Donald Trump had a slight advantage.

RCP Average (June 27-July 11)

Donald Trump   43.8%
Hillary Clinton   43.5%

Many commentators often say that it is Florida that decides the election given that fact that it is usually quite evenly divided between Republican and Democrat voters and has a large population. According to national polls Clinton seems to be favorite to win the election by a slight margin, however should Trump win Florida then all bets are off.

United States Attacks ISIS in Libya : August 1 2016

The US military appears to be expanding its efforts against Islamic State in the North African country of Libya, where the group is said to have a significant presence.

Today air strikes were carried out around the city of Sirte, which has long been a stronghold of the group.

According to previous reports by experts on the terror group, one of their main aims is to gain territory in many countries in order to wage a final battle against the west. This may explain why the US and its allies are reluctant to engage in full scale combat against the group and instead opt for a longer term strategy of debilitating their capacities with targeted strikes in order that local forces dislodge them.
